Have you ever experienced a situation where the e-bike battery is fully charged, but the e-bike isn't working?
Even though e-bikes are fairly simple, technical problems can sometimes occur, causing the bike to stop working. We will explain why these problems may happen and how you can address them.
6 Reasons why an e-bike battery is fully charged but not working
1. Battery not connected in the right way
Here are the 3 steps that you should follow:
Remove the battery from the e-bike and put it back in place soon afterwards to ensure that it is firmly connected.
Check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and there are no signs of debris, dust, or wear.
Check whether the battery connection is damaged; if the contacts are bent, they must be replaced or repaired.
2. Battery has insufficient voltage
Batteries with insufficient voltage cannot provide enough power for the bicycle. If some cases it will be possible to repair the battery, otherwise you need to buy a new e-bike battery.
3. Check the battery management system (BMS)
The battery management system (BMS) prevents battery overcharging and thermal overload. If this mechanism stops working, the battery power will be blocked. You can try either restarting BMS or disconnecting and reconnecting the battery after 5-10 minutes. If it's not working it's possible that BMS is dead.
4. Check the operation of the controller and whether the wires are damaged
The electric bicycle controller is necessary for the battery to power the motor. If the controller does not work or the connection is incorrect, your bike will not start. Use the e-bike manual and try to troubleshoot.
5. Check the power button and screen.
Failure of the power button or display on the electric bicycle may cause failure. If the display is frozen, cracked, or damaged in some other e-bike, it may have an issue. This is quite common in the winter conditions.
6. Check how the bike's motor and throttle are working.
Sometimes the bike does not turn on not because of a faulty battery but because of problems with the engine or throttle (throttle handle). The motor should not produce any noise.
When should I replace the battery?
If none of the above methods have helped, the battery has probably reached its end of life and needs to be replaced.
Signs of battery malfunction:
Strong voltage drop when checking with a multimeter.
The battery drains quickly even after a full charge.
When you connect a third-party battery, your bike works, but it doesn't turn on with yours.
